Quite simply, wild blueberries are the ultimate antioxidant superfruit. Wild blueberries have high concentrations of the flavonoid - anthocyanin, an antioxidant phytochemical found in the blueberry fruit. In addition to acting as antioxidants and fighting free radicals, anthocyanins may offer anti-inflammatory, anti-viral and anti-cancer benefits.

Studies have shown wild blueberries have twice the concentrations of anthocyanins than ordinary cultivated high bush blueberries. They are much smaller than their high bush cousins resulting in a higher skin to pulp ratio - more skin and less water yield a higher concentration of the antioxidant rich pigment - anthocyanin. And less water makes for a better frozen blueberry product.

Wild Blueberries are one of North America’s oldest native berries. It is believed these berries have been present since at least the last glacial period and have thrived despite the less than hospitable growing conditions found in northern New England and Atlantic Canada.

Moreover, wild blueberries are genetically diverse. When you look at a wild blueberry field during the spring bloom or in mid-summer during fruit set or when the leaves are putting on their fall color display, you will see a rich tapestry of color.

These variations stem from thousands of years of adaptation due to the challenging and adverse growing conditions that have led to an abundant range of genetic diversity. This genetic diversity, consisting of hundreds of different naturally occurring varietals, gives our wild blueberries their unique and complex flavor you can taste in every bite. Cultivated or single varietal blueberries simply do not have the complexity of flavors or nutrition. Go wild!
